200-HR ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA TEACHER TRAINING COURSE - L1   DEVELOP GRACE IN BODY, MIND AND SOUL THROUGH MOVEMENT AND BREATH

The Hiranya Mandala School of Yoga Integration and Meditation presents its newest offering in its range of accredited Yoga Teacher Training Courses: 200-HR Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Course - LEVEL 1 which exposes the prospective student to the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Krama, specifically the Primary Series or Yoga Chikitsa, which is considered a therapeutic and healing practice as it realigns and purifies the body through asana, pranayama, bandha and drsti and which prepares the mind for more advanced Hatha Yoga practices; this being based in turn upon Raja Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga, the Eight-Limbed Path as set forth by the ancient Sage Patanjali of India, and which when practiced together with the proscriptions (Yamas) and prescriptions (Niyamas) of Yoga, with reverence, sincerity and regularity, leads to the experience of Yoga or Divine Union, the integration of the individual soul in man with the Spirit.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course would suit those people who desire to teach Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as either a purely physical process, a spiritual process or a combination of these. It will also benefit people who struggle with physical, mental and spiritual afflictions and help them regain their well-being and passion for life. In addition, through the dynamic process of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Krama, the student will learn the virtues of compassion, gentility and inner strength which will make them effective yoga teachers in the world. It provides the student with the skill-set to teach all aspects of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Krama and how to integrate its principles into his/her daily life.

NOTE: This course is not as academically demanding as our ISHTA Yoga Teacher Training Courses, however, it is physically demanding, and the student will be required to write a theoretical exam and undergo a practical assessment at the end of the course. This course is not available online.

1. Philosophy

2. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga techniques including yogasanas, pranayama, karana, bandha, drsti and yoga nidra

3. Raja Yoga meditation techniques

4. Anatomy for Yoga practitioners

5. Basic Sanskrit and Mantra 

6. Foundational Ayurveda for Yoga practitioners

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. The submission of an essay about what Yoga means to you, what Yoga's ultimate purpose is, and why you feel drawn to teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
2. Prior Yoga practice (including self-practice) of at least 2 years (this is non-negotiable).

3. A completed registration form obtainable from the school.
4. Must have a matric certificate (at least 18 years of age).
5. English as a first language (teaching medium is English).

6. A deposit paid upfront (see our Ts & Cs on the New Student Registration form).

The 200-HR Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training course starts on 4 October 2025 and ends on 31 March 2026. 

​

​The course takes six months to complete, and requires the completion of 200 hours of study, with specific reference to the following: 

160 hours  = Lectures attended in person, twice weekly, and consisting of:

1 hour = lecture (philosophy)

1.5 hours = asana

30 min = pranayama/yoga nidra

20 hours = Philosophy, ethics, lifestyle

15 hours = Self practice

20 hours = Teaching methodology

15 hours = Anatomy and physiology

15 hours = Learn the Sanskrit alphabets for correct intonation of the mantras used in the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system. Ayurveda post-workout regimens to balance the doshas will also be taught.

  NOTE: THIS IS AN INTENSIVE TRAINING.

​

Each student will receive two course books at the first meeting. You will also receive an associate membership with the Yoga Teacher's Fellowship of South Africa, during 2025/26, with the option of joining permanently after your studies. Upon successful completion of the course, the candidate will receive a certificate, and the title of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher. The course is accredited through the Yoga Teachers Fellowship (YTF) of South Africa, and is recognised internationally in Europe, South Africa, USA and Australia. For the duration of the course, students will also receive full access to all classes and workshops (except yoga retreats), offered by the Hiranya Mandala School of Yoga at no additional charge.

PAYMENT OPTIONS:

A non-refundable deposit of R6000 is payable upfront, and must accompany your registration, irrespective of whether one pays for the full amount upfront or decides to pay via a payment plan. This amount will be deducted from the overall fee of course.

• The course costs R25000.

• The full amount (minus the deposit of R6000) may be paid over the four-month period (R4750 per month). The course must be paid in full by the end of March 2026 before one is certified.
